British video game developer, Creative Assembly, has announced that their latest title, Total War Saga: TROY, will be given away for free on the Epic Games Store for 24 hours when it is released on August 13.

The game will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store for a year and can only be claimed for free during the first 24 hours after its release. Once that 24-hour window has closed, the game will be full price.

Total War Saga: TROY is set during the epic Trojan War of Greek myth, although Creative Assembly has decided to put a more realistic spin on the traditional story.

“We’re really excited about TROY, and we’re even more excited that this will give more of you the chance to play and enjoy it than might have had it otherwise. While we know that some of you won’t like the Epic Games Store exclusivity, we feel like this is a great opportunity for us in a lot of ways,” the Creative Assembly said in a blog post.

Total War Saga: TROY will be the latest game to be given away for free by the Epic Games Store, alongside its ongoing weekly giveaway as part of the store’s mega sale this year.

The Epic Games Store has notably given away games such as Grand Theft Auto V and Sid Meier’s Civilization VI in past weeks.

Total War Saga: TROY is the latest historical title to be added to Creative Assembly’s classic Total War series. The game will also be the second Total War ‘Saga,’ a smaller game that focuses on singular conflicts instead of entire eras as with mainline Total War titles.

Total War games combine turn-based strategy elements with real-time tactical battles in settings such as Ancient Rome and China. The series has also expanded to include fantasy settings with the Total War: Warhammer series.
