Riot Games has decided to remove all ranked restrictions from five-stack parties in the competitive queue to reduce the game’s smurfing problem. This means lower-ranked players can now queue with high-ranked players in Valorant patch 3.10.

“Our data has shown that the most common reason that players smurf, is because they want to play with their friends outside the bounds of our current ranked restrictions,” explained Valorant Comms Strategist Jeff Landa. “Removing these boundaries for five-stacks specifically means that you can play with your friends regardless of the restrictions that exist for smaller party sizes in competitive queue.”

Five-stack groups with greater rank disparity (Silver to Platinum) will have reduced MMR points gained and lost after each match. These groups can also expect longer queue times since the game will only match them against another five-stack with a similar average MMR.

Riot Games has also decided to remove four-stacks from the competitive queue in Valorant patch 3.10.

“These types of groups tend to leave the remaining solo queue player with a relatively poor play experience, and we believe that removing this option will result in a significant reduction of overall toxicity reports,” shared Landa.
