Fujimura “Fujimura” Atsushi is on fire right now. With first-place finishes at the Taipei Major and Fighter’s Spirit, he was one of the favorites to come out on top at a stacked CEO 2019.

But Masato “Bonchan” Takahashi had other plans. The Versus Masters Champion defeated Daigo “The Beast” Umehara and Masahiro “Machabo” Tominaga to advance to the grand finals from the winners bracket, setting up an epic final match between these two Japanese legends.

Fujimura started the match hot, landing a hit on wake up, and then finishing the first game with a combo into a Critical Art.

Fujimura’s Ibuki is in a class of its own when it comes to offense, as demonstrated by this 19-second perfect round.

The first set came down to the wire, with the scored tied 2-2, and the last game tied 1-1. With both fighters low on health, Fujimura hit a beautiful anti-air to trap Bonchan in the corner, and was able to finish him off with an EX-Kazekiri into EX-Raida to take the set and reset the bracket.

Bonchan adjusted his approach after the reset. He started playing more methodically, focusing on his neutral game and punishing Fujimura’s dash ins.

Bonchan even earned a perfect of his own, landing optimized combos and getting the better of the exchanges.

But Fujimura answered back with an even faster perfect round of his own.

Up 2-1, at tournament point, Bonchan showed off his incredible defense landing this beautiful anti-air and dash to escape the corner, and then clutching out the game with a perfect bait and counter punish low normal.

For his first-place finish, Bonchan earned 700 CPT points and US$7,000, which puts him at 4th place in the global leader board with 1,370 points.
