In Week 7 of the League of Legends Champions Korea, DAMWON Gaming took down rivals and league leaders DragonX in impressive fashion thanks to a stellar draft and incredible play from Heo “ShowMaker” Su and Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu.

In game one, DragonX opted for an exotic duo for the botlane as an answer to Jang “Ghost” Yong-jun’s Aphelios, with Ryu “Keria” Min-seok playing Senna and Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu playing Heimerdinger.

Though the DRX duo was able to zone out DWG in the botlane, ShowMaker excelled in countering Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon’s blind-pick Camille with his counter pick of Zoe.

Once DAMWON secured the Cloud Drake, the entire squad was chasing DRX on every offensive effort.

Chovy’s Camille and Deft’s Heimerdinger tried to flank DWG at the Baron pit, but Canyon’s Sett thwarted the attack while ShowMaker’s Zoe claimed the ace with a committed pursuit on Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon’s Trundle.

DAMWON walked out with 28 kills over their rivals, proving that a good counter-draft can easily dictate the outcome of an intense match-up.

Game two was an even bigger draft blow-out by DWG, as they picked up an impeccable combo of ShowMaker’s Galio, Canyon’s Karthus, and Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon’s Camille. With the use of all three champion ultimates at once, the DWG trio instantly shut down anyone who tried to push the lanes.

In the final clash, DAMWON’s composition perfectly zoned out DRX to capture the Infernal Soul. With Canyon utilizing Karthus’s Wall of Pain to trap Chovy and his squad in the river, the rest of DWG quickly caught up and claimed a near ace for the series finish, only leaving Pyosik’s Olaf barely alive for a rush on the Nexus.

Canyon’s Sett (game one) and ShowMaker’s Galio (game two) received player-of-the-game awards for their ability to lock down on opponents with stuns and taunts and create opportunities for critical kills. Even against such world-class teams like DRX, DAMWON can find success by analyzing their opponents’ smart draft picks and having their cohesive team-play speak for itself.

“I’ve always had a bad time versus Chovy whenever I encountered him so I’m very happy that I took him down today,” said ShowMaker in the post-game interview. “We thought it was going to be an uphill battle and our teammates allowed us to get the win easily.”

You can catch DAMWON Gaming in their next match against Gen.G on August 6, 4 PM (GMT+8).
