These, along with and the game’s high-octane gunfights, has made the EA-published title a big hit six years after its debut. But recent months haven’t been the easiest for Apex fans.

Rampant hacking and widespread data wipes aside, the team-based shooter has also been wracked with log-in errors; most commonly a version mismatch error that has kept players from joining cross-platform lobbies with their squad.

The Apex game version does not match error occurs because of the version of Apex Legends you currently have installed. So that’s what we’ll look at first.

Fix 1: Check which version of Apex Legends you’re on

If you’re playing Apex Legends on Origin, go to ‘My Game Library’, right-click on Apex Legends and check ‘Game Properties’. From there, compare the version you’re on by checking the latest version on the official Apex Legends website.

If you’re running an old version of Apex Legends, close the game and come back to check for an update button on the client. Version updates and future patches should download automatically on consoles. This will hopefully solve the Apex version does not match error.

Fix 2: Check for corrupted files

Corrupted files and buggy components are usually the root cause of version mismatch errors. The system won’t let you into public servers if it sees one thing out of place in your game files. Which is why we have to regularly check on their status.

How to convert Apex Legends sensitivity from CS2 and Valorant

This is easily done on Steam by right-clicking on the game and selecting ‘Properties’. From there, go to the ‘Installed Files’ tab and verify the file integrity of your Apex Legends install.

Doing this usually confirms if your version of Apex is in good shape. That said, if you still aren’t being prompted for an update, you may need to reinstall the game completely.

Reinstalling the game is often one of the best fixes for game version does not match issues.

Fix 3: Reinstall Apex Legends

A clean slate; reinstalling your game means that you get to redownload the complete (and current) version of the game.

While this doesn’t promise a full fix, a complete reinstall usually takes care of hidden file errors and other underlying issues.

Fix 4: Check Apex Legends server status

Apex Legends server status determines our chances of getting into a good lobby.

Ping and chances for lag aside, server-side bugs also impact your experience by producing lobby-related disruptions, like the ‘version does not match’ error in Apex Legends.

In these cases, there unfortunately little we can do beyond just waiting for a comprehensive fix. Cross-platform play has always been one of Apex’s strongest selling points since 2019.

So if there’s anything we know, it’s that the game version does not match error is in Respawn’s list of priorities, and that we should be getting a permanent solution soon.
