Double Fine Productions’ highly-anticipated sequel of the 2005 game Psychonauts has been delayed to 2020.

This and more were published in a blog post that was mainly about its E3 experience, how it was joining the Xbox Game Studios, and also mentioned that Microsoft will now be publishing the game as a first-party title.

Snuck underneath all that though was the bad news, that the Psychonauts 2 developer would delay the game’s release until the next year.

“We know it’s always disappointing when you have to wait a bit longer, but we also know that you are an amazing, supportive bunch, who — just like us — want the game to be as good as possible. So we’re hopeful you’ll understand,” wrote Double Fine.

This is their second time Double Fine has delayed the game — it had announced back in December 2017 that the game had been pushed for a 2019 release.

The game currently has 24,109 backers in Fig and has amassed around USD$3.8M for its production. Double Fine also released a self-funded VR game, Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin, to add more hype to the sequel. With such a delay, it seems that Double Fine wants nothing but the best for themselves as creators and their Psychobackers.

Psychonauts 2 is set to release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC sometime in 2020.
