After the well-received first-ever Pokémon GO Invitational at this year’s Pokémon World Championships, the Pokémon GO team revealed earlier this week its plans to introduce the the GO Battle League as an update to the the popular mobile game’s battle mode.

Unlike the normal battles in Pokémon GO, this new feature will use an online matching system. Battle results will be reflected on a ranking leaderboard and victories will award competitors with experience points, rewards, and event bonuses.

Players need to walk to earn entry into the GO Battle League and be able to battle with other Pokémon GO Trainers worldwide.

The Pokémon GO Battle League is slated for tentative rollout in early 2020. More details about this new feature will be revealed soon in the form of a special Developer’s Insights video.
