To celebrate the release of Pokémon GO’s new Battle League, Niantic has announced a limited-edition luchador-inspired Pikachu.

Originally appearing in the Wii U port of Pokkén Tournament, the Mexican wrestling-themed Pikachu is an all-new alternate costume for Cosplay Pikachu, an exclusive type to Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire.

It was later included in the original arcade-type Pokkén and is one of the selectable alternate skins for Pikachu in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Following the concept where a Cosplay Pikachu will be in a costume that is very similar to its master, Pikachu Libre for Pokémon GO will also come with Lucha Libre inspired costumers for avatars.

How do you get Pikachu Libre?

You can obtain Pikachu Libre from Pokémon GO Battle League matches. Whenever you win a match within the league, you have a chance at a random rare Pokémon encounter.

Pikachu Libre has a small chance to appear in one of these random rare encounters, where you’ll be able to catch him.

If you haven’t already gained access to the Battle League, you can gain entry by walking 5km. Alternatively, you can walk at least 2km and spend PokéCoins to cover the remaining entry fee.
