Chinese Dota 2 squad Team Aster has announced a new lineup for the remainder of the season after star players Song “Sccc” Chun and Pan “Fade” Yi parted ways with the team.
Aster’s new roster consists of former Royal Never Give Up (RNG) players Du “Monet” Peng and Liu “白学家” Yuhao as well as former Keen Gaming (KG) player Jiang “天命” An. The roster has retained offlaner Lin “Xxs” Jing and support player Ye “BoBoKa” Zhibiao from its previous iteration.
Chinese Dota legend Zhang “LaNm” Zhicheng, who played for RNG last year before becoming a coach for KG and Team Sirius, will join Aster as coach.
Meanwhile, Aster also announced that Malaysian midlaner Kee Chyuan “ChYuan” Ng has chosen not to continue his professional career in China and will instead return to Southeast Asia. The organization added that his contract will be frozen and put in reserve to help facilitate his transfer to a new team.
Aster’s new roster was revealed in a stream by another Chinese Dota legend, Xu “BurNIng” Zhilei, who is also the co-owner of the team. Following the reveal, Aster CEO Guo “Zhili” Zhili joined BurNIng’s stream to talk about the team’s roster moves.
Zhili revealed on stream that star carry player Sccc signed a one-year contract with Aster when he joined the team last year and that it expires on September 1. Sccc has chosen not to renew his contract with the team, and will become a free agent after.
As for Fade, Zhili clarified that he had signed a two-year deal with the team. However, Aster’s CEO did not comment any further on his reasons for leaving the squad.
The Chinese Dota 2 scene is currently on hiatus until September, though massive roster changes have been brewing behind the scenes involving major organizations such as PSG.LGD, Vici Gaming, and newcomer organization Four Angry Men.
Aster is the first Chinese organization to formally announce roster changes during this period, though official announcements from other teams are expected to come flooding in at the start of next month.
