With the 2020 Capcom Pro Tour on hold due to the COVID-19 novel coronavirus pandemic, FGC legends Daigo “The Beast” Umehara and Hajime “Tokido” Taniguchi have been grinding online with some new characters.

Daigo has apparently spent a lot of time practicing Kage after Guile’s V-Skill II, Sonic Dive was nerfed in the CE 202003 adjustment patch from Capcom. Also of note is that Daigo seems to have returned to a regular arcade stick, after spending some time using a hit box.

Meanwhile, Tokido has decided to pick up a backup character in Urien. Plenty of pro players have realized they need to have at least two main characters to make sure they have no matchup disadvantages during competitive matches.

The two recently matched up against each other online, to the delight of FGC fans around the world.

Daigo won the first round by surviving against Tokido’s corner pressure and properly nullifying Urien’s Aegis Reflector pressure.

Tokido answered back by taking control of the fireball game, which prevented Daigo from landing any big combos.

Daigo took the first game by getting a sick comeback win against Tokido. First, Daigo trapped Tokido in the corner. Then, he completely disregarded Urien’s Aegis Reflector and played around it to win the game.

Tokido then won two quick rounds against Daigo by using Urien’s long-range pokes and Chariot Tackle pressure to keep Daigo in the corner.

Similar to their tournament encounters, the match came down to the final game.

Daigo used a neat Ashura Senku teleport move to escape Tokido’s Aegis Reflector pressure, then used all of his bars to chip away Tokido’s health bar, since the round was about to time out.

After taking a low hit, Tokido tried to chip away Daigo’s health with a Chariot Tackle. But, this only opened him up for a counter-attack, which Daigo used to take the third game.
