The League of Legends World Championship has finally entered into the quarterfinals with Invictus Gaming going against Korean team Griffin. In this best-of-5 series, IG came out on top with an impressive 3-1 win.

Here’s how things went down:

Game 1

Game 1 was a landslide victory for IG. The Chinese team’s ADC (attack damage carry), Yu “JackeyLove” Wen-Bo, was on a roll throughout the game. By the 15-minute mark, IG interrupted GRF’s Rift Herald rush with an astonishing clash, getting an early ace and a triple-kill for JackeyLove.

Even with IG’s early-game ace, GRF did not give up on offense. With a surprise gank in IG’s bottom jungle, GRF took down both Wang “Baolan” Liu-Yi and Gao “Ning” Zhen-Ning. Even with the two deaths, Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok was relentless on offense, shutting down Park “Viper” Do-hyeon with a flash-Last Breath combo.

By the 43-minute mark, GRF had lost both main towers at the Nexus, giving IG a long yet hard-earned win in Game 1.

Game 2

In the second match, GRF started to gain confidence in their teamwork, thanks to a quick first-blood. With a slower pace to the game, GRF was able to dominate in the laning phase.

Later on, IG became a more immediate threat to the Korean team. With IG’s all-star mid-laner Song “Rookie” Eui-jin going berserk with two triple-kills, they were able to secure the game win.

Game 3

The third game was redemption time for Griffin. With a strong counter-pick of Sion and Xayah, they capitalized on AoE attacks to bring down IG throughout the game. In one clash, GRF’s Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon executed a five-man Decimating Smash, killing three of IG’s crew.

With a huge advantage in kills and pushing power, GRF dominated the map in the late game. 35 minutes in, GRF made a triumphant clash in top lane for an ace and a secured victory.

Game 4

With a crushing defeat in Game 3, Invictus pulled out their A-game for Game 4. JackeyLove started to pick up the same ADC prowess that he had in Game 1. With a quick clash in GRF’s bot jungle, JackeyLove easily took down Chovy and Choi “Sword” Sung-won, allowing his team to go for Baron.

As IG brandished the Baron buff, they looked to end the game once and for all with one more push. With GRF desperately defending their mid lane, TheShy initiated Kayle’s ultimate on JackeyLove, perfectly teleporting and landing the shared ult on Viper and Chovy.

With only two GRF members left, IG sped through one more inhibitor and went straight for the nexus, ending the series with a 3-1 standing.

Invictus Gaming will now move onto the semifinals, getting even closer to the final stage to defend its stake on the Worlds championship.
