The Overwatch League has announced that the rest of the season will be played exclusively online, and that it is canceling all remaining Homestand events amid the worsening COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

All Overwatch League games will be broadcast online, with videos also available on-demand on the official Overwatch League YouTube channel afterward.

The league stated that the decision to move its remaining matches online was made after discussions with all of its teams. It also added that players, teams, staff, and production personnel may continue to compete and work from locations of their choosing provided that they act “in accordance with current health and safety recommendations and governmental mandates.”

The Overwatch League notably canceled all of its Homestand events scheduled for the months of March and April and moved all competition online in response to the onset of the pandemic in the United States last month.

However, the league insisted that it is still hoping to return to holding live competitions within the season once it safe for its players, teams, and fans to do so.

“The Overwatch League was built to deliver season after season of live, city-based events in front of our amazing fans. While we are collectively facing an incredibly challenging time, we hope to get back to live events before 2020 season concludes, and we are working hand-in-hand with all our teams to make this happen as soon as it’s safe and logistically feasible,” the Overwatch League said in a statement.

The league also added that they will be releasing information regarding this season’s playoffs and Grand Finals sometime soon. While there is still hope among the league’s players, teams, executives, and fans that the postseason can still be held live, the evolution of the coronavirus crisis will surely be decisive in the league’s eventual decision.
