Homecourt team Phong Vu Buffalo (PVB) did not disappoint their fans, winning 3-2 in a tight series against Vega Squadron (VEG) on the last day of the League of Legends Mid-Season International 2019 knockout stages.

In the best-of-five (BO5) match, PVB took the early lead by winning the first two games. However, VEG managed to tie it up by winning the next two matches, turning the best-of-five into a nailbiting best-of-one.

During this tie-breaker round, both PVB and VEG showed their eagerness to advance. PVB’s winning picks were Jayce played by Phạm “Zeros” Minh Lộc, Gragas played by Hoàng “Meliodas” Tiến Nhật, Zoe played by Võ “Naul” Thành Luân, Ezreal played by Đặng “BigKoro” Ngọc Tài, and Galio played by Nguyễn “Palette” Hải Trung.

PVB started out with aggressive moves to try to take the first blood, while getting Cho’Gath (Vladislav “BOSS” Fomin) and Tahm Kench (Aleksandr “SaNTaS” Lifashin) low on health.

The Vietnamese squad eventually got what they wanted with a three-man tower dive by PVB Zeros, PVB Meliodas, and PVB Naul, picking off VEG BOSS. However, in return, PVB Naul’s Zoe was taken down and VEG was able to even out the death count to 2-2 as VEG Lev “Nomanz” Yakshin’s Orianna killed off PVB Zeros, too.

It was a different story on the bottom side of the map, as VEG had the side of the enemy jungle lit up with wards, playing defensively against PVB. This made it easier for VEG Kirill “AHaHaCiK” Skvortsov’s Vi to gank and kill PVB’s bot laner.

VEG managed to get dibs on the Rift Herald, in exchange for the deaths of VEG BOSS, VEG Ilya “Gadget” Makavchuk’s Ashe, and VEG “SaNTaS” Tahm Kench.

As the game progressed, VEG continued to score multiple dragon kills, but Buffalo did not let Vega go unscathed, and even got an ace during one of the fights.

Phong Vu Buffalo continued picking off the members of the Vega Squadron one-by-one, accumulating strength and with just three of VEG’s members left alive, PVB took out Baron Nashor, getting his buff that helped in pushing towards VEG’s Nexus.

By the 33-minute mark, PVB was already 10,000 gold ahead of VEG, and the match ended 24-15 in favor of the Buffalo. This match also marked the end of Vega Squadron’s MSI 2019 journey.

The MSI 2019 Group Stage will take place at the Vietnam National Convention Center in Hanoi on May 10.
