The MSI 2024 draw results for the play-in stage are out!

The play-in stage matchups for the League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational 2024 was decided on April 20, 2024 after the conclusion of the LPL Spring 2024 finals.

Hosted by retired mid laner Su “Xiye” Hanwei, best known for his time on Team WE, the draw reflected changes to the MSI 2024 format. For the first time, Riot Games is separating qualified teams into different tiers to create a fair draw without lopsided brackets.

MSI 2024 runs from May 1 to May 19, 2024 in Chengdu, China. 12 teams compete in a double elimination format in two stage: play-in stage and bracket stage.

The winner of MSI 2024 secures a guaranteed spot at Worlds 2024, plus an additional spot for their region.

How the MSI 2024 draw works

There are four tiers in the play-in stage draw. The numbers refer to their seeding, which was determined after the conclusion of each region’s Spring split 2024 playoffs.

  • Tier 1: LPL2, LCK2 (Top Esports, T1)
  • Tier 2: LEC2, LCS2 (Fnatic, FlyQuest)
  • Tier 3: PCS1, VCS1 (PSG Talon, GAM Esports)
  • Tier 4: LLA1, CBLOL1 (Estral Esports, LOUD)

Teams are split into two brackets, each with one team from each tier.

Tier 1 teams are matched up with Tier 4 teams. Tier 2 teams are matched up with Tier 3 teams for the first round of their bracket.

In Bracket A, T1’s first match is against Estral Esports, while FlyQuest goes up against PSG Talon.

In Bracket B, LPL Spring 2024 runner-up Top Esports faces the LOUD, while Fnatic clash against VCS’ one and only GAM Esports.

Do note that while the brackets and initial matchups are fixed, the schedule of MSI 2024 is still to be determined.
