In a shocking turn of events, fourth-seeded team, MAD Lions, have defeated reigning LEC champions, G2 Esports, in the first round of the Spring playoffs.

In an intense best-of-five series, MAD played their best LoL of the year, taking down the number one seed in a thrilling game five that saw them snatch victory from the jaws of defeat after fending off a nearly successful backdoor attempt from G2.

At the 30-minute mark of game five, MAD had a sizeable lead in both gold and kills, but G2 refused to give up, going for a backdoor initiated by support player Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle’s Bard and Rasmus “Caps” Winther’s Ziggs.

MAD responded by recalling back to their base after defeating the Baron Nashor, but at this point, their nexus was just a few hits from being destroyed.

Fortunately for MAD, Caps made a crucial mistake by casting his second ability Satchel Charge.

While it kept him safely away from Matyáš “Carzzy” Orság’s Syndra, Caps got caught by Zhiqiang “Shad0w” Zhao’s Olaf and Norman “Kaiser” Kaiser’s Sett.

With Caps and Mikyx both down, MAD seized the opportunity to push for G2’s nexus, taking the final game after 39 minutes, with a 34/13/44 team KDA.

MAD Lions will now face Fnatic in the Upper Bracket for a spot in the final, while G2 fall to the Lower Bracket where they will meet Rogue.
