The first-ever Fortnite World Cup duo competition champions, David “aqua” W. and Emil “nyhrox” Pederson, are officially going their separate ways. It’s been barely a week since the European pair won US$1.5 million each from their duos grand final victory.

nyhrox announced that he will not be resigning with COOLER Esport, the team that he and aqua represented during the Fortnite World Cup.

He later made it clear that he had no animosity toward his former organization in a retweet of COOLER Esport’s sendoff for him.

The next we’ll see of nyhrox will be in the Trios competition of the upcoming Fortnite Champion Series. He’ll join an all-Norwegian squad with Theo “Pr0vokd” Guillemenot of Fnatic and Martin “Mr. Savage” Foss Andersen of NRG Esports.

Meanwhile, aqua created quite a stir when he announced that he will be partnering with fellow Austrian Klaus “Stompy” Kostanzer of Eleven Gaming in “the next duo tournaments”. With competitive Fortnite heading in the direction of Trios, the tweet caught his followers off guard, with some even thinking he was just trolling.

In a later Twitlonger post, aqua clarified that he “never meant to send hate to nyhrox or anyone” and that he felt that his and Stompy’s playing styles fit better. He also pointed out that he and nyhrox had already been discussing the split for a long time.
