Epic has announced that it is making improvements to matchmaking for Fortnite: Battle Royale beginning in update v10.40.

In a developer update, the Fortnite team admitted that they have not changed their matchmaking system for the past two years, however, the range of player skill has grown considerably since then.

Because of this, they’ve decided to slowly roll out a new matchmaking system to all regions across the Battle Royale core modes. The new system features improved matchmaking logic for Battle Royale core modes that should create fairer matches. This means you’ll be more likely to match with players of similar skill, and as you get better, so should your opponents.

The team will test and monitor the new changes and will be listening to player feedback.

For the first time, bots are also being added to Battle Royale mode.

The team stated that “they will behave similarly to players and will help provide a better path for players to grow in skill.”

Players who are new to the game or those who are looking to improve will most likely be matched up with bots. Bots will not be present in Competitive playlists.
