After pulling off an excellent Bukovel Minor tournament, organizers WePlay! are back with the Dota 2 Tug of War: Mad Moon tournament, which starts on February 19 and will see eight teams fight for a total prize pool of US$300,000.
The two teams headlining the event are DreamLeague Season 13 Leipzig Major champions Team Secret, and WePlay! Bukovel Minor champions Team Nigma.
Both Team Secret and Nigma are direct invite teams, along with Gambit Esports and another ‘to be determined’ final team that has yet to be announced.
The remaining four teams included in the tournament are qualifier winners Royal Never Give Up, Infamous Gaming, Natus Vincere, and the new Ninjas and Pyjamas squad that recently went through a roster change.
The WePlay! Tug of War Dota 2 series is an ongoing tournament with multiple online qualifier events that began early last year.
NiP won the WePlay! Dota 2 Tug of War: Radiant to qualify for Mad Moon during March of last year, while RNG won the Dire Asia qualifier and Infamous won the Dire America qualifier respectively.
Team Secret is definitely the team to beat at the event. After their dominating performance at the Leipzig Major, the European squad will be the heavy favorites for the Mad Moon tournament.
Team Nigma is another team to keep an eye on. During the WePlay! Bukovel Minor, the team had a slow start, but they managed to gain a better understanding of the meta on their way to their first tournament win of 2020.
The WePlay! Tug of War: Mad Moon’s Group Stage is set to begin on February 19-20 with the eight teams split into two GSL groups. The top teams from each group will advance to the Upper Bracket Playoffs, while the second and third place teams fall to the Lower Bracket of the tournament. The teams in last place of their respective groups will be eliminated.
The Playoffs are set to take place on February 21-23 which will be held at the VDNG Concert Hall in Kiev, Ukraine. Dota 2 fans can tune into the WePlayEsports Twitch stream to catch all the action.
