Day 5 of DreamLeague 13: The Leipzig Major Playoffs had the remaining four teams in the tournament battling in two intense elimination series and a marquee matchup between two of the top contenders.

Here’s a recap of the thrilling Day 5 competition:

Alliance eliminate Team Liquid, 2-1

Alliance managed to clutch out the first game. While they built an early lead, Liquid was able to catch up and erase Alliance’s lead after they halted their opponent’s Dire base siege attempt.

But in the end, Alliance’s Gyrocopter and Io combination was too much for Liquid to handle. Nikolay “Nikobaby” Nikolov eventually picked up a Divine Rapier and finished the game for Alliance.

In the second game, Michael “miCKe” Vu’s Morphling was given a completely free lane while the rest of Liquid dominated the rest of the lanes. Alliance found themselves 3,000 gold behind before the eight-minute mark. Liquid maintained their lead for the rest of the game and evened the series at 1-1.

Game three featured Alliance showcasing a monumental team fight where they earned eight kills in a span of a minute. Liquid never recovered from such a disastrous team fight, as Alliance powered through to a 2-1 series win.

Team Secret defeat Vici Gaming, 2-0

A pair of tournament favorites went head-to-head as Team Secret and Vici Gaming faced each other in a highly-anticipated Upper Bracket Final match.

Team Secret was clearly the better team in the first game of the series. The European squad shut down VG’s Drow Ranger and Puck draft with Michal “Nisha” Jankowski’s Arc Warden and Lasse “Matumbaman” Urpalainen’s Monkey King.

VG suffered another convincing defeat at the hands of Secret in the following game. Clement “Puppey” Ivanov and Team Secret’s coach Lee “Heen” Gon picked the perfect heroes to go up against VG’s Gyrocopter and Io tandem. Team Secret also outplayed their Chinese counterparts in most of the team fights.

With their 2-1 victory, Team Secret advanced to the Grand Finals of the Leipzig Major. Meanwhile, VG fell to the Lower Bracket Finals.

Evil Geniuses eliminate Alliance, 2-0

Both teams started this series with aggressive plays. Alliance scored more team kills during the mid-game, but EG was more efficient with finding farm for their Templar Assassin, Drow Ranger, and Timbersaw core heroes.

EG eventually took control of the game and forced Alliance to tap out.

In game two, Alliance continued to struggle against EG. Abed “Abed” Yusop and Artour “Arteezy” Babaev both had stellar performances as their team’s primary damage dealers. EG finished the series with an impressive Chronosphere-Chain Frost combo that ended Alliance’s tournament run.

Evil Geniuses advanced to the Lower Bracket Finals, where they’re set to face Vici Gaming.

Meanwhile, Alliance exited the tournament at fourth place with US$80,000 and 1,350 DPC points.
