The move comes three weeks after Geek Fam’s star carry player, Marc Polo “Raven” Fausto, left the team to join Fnatic and build a Southeast Asian superteam.

Raven’s departure notably came shortly after Geek Fam defeated Fnatic to become the champions of the ONE Esports Dota 2 SEA League. The team has yet to find a suitable replacement for their former carry player.

Abed has been unable to play with EG in recent months due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Since parting with EG after the scene was shut down last March, Abed has remained in his home country of the Philippines due to travel restrictions.

Abed and Geek Fam will be facing eleven other teams from Southeast Asia and China at ESL One Thailand for the lion’s share of a US$130,000 prize pool. Among their opponents will be Fnatic, who will also be playing with a stand-in after Daryl “iceiceice” Koh Pei Xiang has chosen to take a break from competitive play.

The ESL One Thailand 2020: Asian online league will begin its group stage on August 20, with the playoffs set to be held from September 1-6.
