Twitch has announced that it is bringing back live interactive sci-fi series Artificial for a third season.

The Emmy and Peabody Award-winning show will return exclusively on the streaming platform with 12 two-hour episodes.

The third season, entitled Remote Intelligence, will begin with a new story that expands beyond Sophie Lin, the artificial intelligence that was the focal point of the previous two seasons. The new narrative will instead revolve around an idealistic young scientist named Elle and her AI’s journey toward becoming human.

Artificial: Remote Intelligence will have the audience involved in crucial “creative decisions such as casting and the shaping of characters” and even the real-time musical score, according to executive producer Bernie Su.

Su is also the founder of 96 Next, the interactive media studio behind the show.

Artificial: Remote Intelligence also raises the bar for the series by incorporating the challenge of remote production as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis.

While Twitch is known more for video game streaming content, Artificial pushes the envelope on what kind of content can go on the popular streaming platform.

While Artificial still pulls through on the live-streaming experience, the series comes with a certain polish and creative direction that is rarely seen on many popular streams.

“Artificial delivers an immersive, interactive experience that can only be found on Twitch, as the community has the power to change the direction of the story in real-time,” said Michael Aragon, SVP of Content at Twitch.

“This award-winning show is emblematic of how Twitch is helping shape the future of live entertainment.”

Artificial: Remote Intelligence will premiere on May 22, 9 a.m. GMT+8, exclusively on Twitch.
