CS2 crosshair settings guide: How to change your crosshair

Aiming is the bread and butter of Counter-Strike 2, so if you want to land those trick shots and secure top rankings, you may want to start taking your CS2 crosshair settings seriously.

How to change crosshair in CS2

To change the crosshair in CS2, you need to create a new one. There are multiple ways to customize the crosshair in CS2, and the simplest is to change it in the workshop map. 

Here’s how: 

• Log in to your Steam account on the browser. 
• Go to Crashz’ Crosshair Generator v4 page here and click on Subscribe.
• Start CS2 and then click on Play. 
• Select Workshop Maps from the menu. 
• Select Crashz’ Crosshair Generator v4 from the maps and click on the green Go icon. 

Once you’re loaded in, you’ll see dozens of options to customize your crosshair and test it in the practice field. The screen will directly load you into the main area, where you can personalize:

• Crosshair length
• Thickness
• Outline
• Dot size
• Color
• T-Shape
• Crosshair type
• Sniper crosshair thickness

Slightly to the left, you’ll get the option to change the color, recoil, and more. Use all these settings to find a crosshair that aligns with your play style. Static is the most common and accurate crosshair type, but you may also experiment with hybrid and dynamic. Some players like a larger crosshair, while most prefer a smaller crosshair for precision. It’s a personal choice.

Alternatively, you may also pick the pre-made pro-player crosshair that best suits your style. The map currently has 80 crosshairs that you can customize using the settings board on the map. Once done, go ahead and walk through the small door into the bot field to test your brand-new crosshair. 

Don’t forget to shoot at the Save and Exit option in the map to make sure your crosshair is locked in. 

CS2 crosshair generator

Another way to customize a crosshair in CS2 is outside of the game. If you don’t want to download a new workshop map, the CS2 crosshair generator allows you the same customization options except for the test range.

You can customize the crosshair’s type, style, size, and color in the crosshair generator. Your changes will appear on your monitor, but you cannot test them. You can, however, move it around the screen to get a feel of the crosshair. How to create CS2 crosshair config

To create a config, follow this method: 

• Copy the config from the CS2 config generator 
• Open Notepad and paste the config. 
• Save the file with a name that ends in “.cfg”. For example, you might save the file as “myconfig.cfg”. Be sure to select “All Files” as the file type.
• Move the config file to the appropriate folder. The folder is usually with. This is the default config location: Windows: C:\ProgramFiles (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\game\csgo\cfg
• Once saved, launch CS2 and open the console by pressing the tilde (~) key. 
• Type “exec (configname)” and press Enter to execute the config file.

While a bit complicated, this method would permanently save your crosshair settings. 

A simpler way to use your new settings is to copy console commands from the crosshair generator instead of config and paste them into the game console. However, this procedure may need to be repeated each time you play CS2, so using a config file would be more convenient. 

How to copy crosshair in CS2

If you’re still not satisfied with your customized crosshair, you can do some shopping while playing CS2. Copy a friend’s or any player’s crosshair in CS2 if you see them perform well in a game. 

• Press the tab to open the scoreboard when you’re in the middle of a game.
• Enable the cursor by pressing right-click. 
• Right-click on the name of the player whose crosshair you wish to copy.
• Select Copy Crosshair at the bottom.
• When prompted, you will be asked if you want to replace your current crosshair. Make sure to select “YES” to proceed with the replacement.

In CS2, picking the right crosshair color is just as crucial as tweaking any other in-game setting. Your crosshair could be the perfect size and type, but you’re toast if it’s not visible enough across all areas.
